The laboratory of Applied Linguistics
was established in 2002 on the initiative of three linguists from Bulgarian language department. The purpose of the scholars is to create a union of intellectuals in order to examine and describe the actual applied aspects of language and speech, synchronically and diachronically.

Within the boundaries of the short history of the laboratory four more lecturers from the Bulgarian language department were enrolled as well as a few PhD, BA and MA students from the philological subjects and the subject of informatics. The members of the laboratory took part in the elaboration of a scholarly project “Trends in Bulgarian language on the borderline between two millennia”, divided into three sections each of which was successfully presented in the respective civil year with a certain number of publications.

The academic interests of the laboratory members focus on communication, bilingualism, psycholinguistics, the theory of literary languages and the language of media literacy.
